Dambai (O/R), May 9, GNA-The Ministry of Health will on Saturday, launch the Free Primary Healthcare Programme for the Oti Region at Dambai to improve access to essential health services across communities in the region.

The 0900 hours ceremony would be led by the Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, in collaboration with the Oti Regional Minister, Mr John Kwadwo Gyapong.

The programme forms part of government efforts to achieve universal health coverage by removing financial barriers to primary healthcare delivery at the community level.

Under the initiative, residents are expected to benefit from free medical consultations, access to essential medicines, preventive healthcare services, immunisation, maternal and child healthcare, and early screening for non-communicable diseases through health centres and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.

Health officials say the intervention is expected to reduce out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure among residents while easing pressure on district and regional hospitals.

The Ministry also expects the programme to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the Oti Region’s districts through improved collaboration among health professionals, traditional authorities, civil society organisations and development partners.

Officials from the Ministry of Health, the Oti Regional Coordinating Council, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders are expected to attend the launch.

The Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC) has urged residents to participate in the event and take advantage of the programme when it becomes operational across the region.
