The Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, Dr David Kofi Wuaku, says the gradual resurgence of sporting activities in the country signals new hope for the future of Ghana’s sports industry.

According to him, the growing interest in sports presents an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to participate in and contribute meaningfully to the development of the sector.

Dr Wuaku made the remarks during the 2026 Democracy Cup in Kumasi, where football enthusiasts and stakeholders gathered to celebrate the connection between sports and Ghana’s democratic development.

He said the renewed momentum in sporting activities must, however, be supported by strong leadership, commitment and effective management from stakeholders.

“Sports is gradually picking up,” Dr Wuaku said, adding that the development provides an opportunity for individuals to earn their place through leadership and meaningful contributions to the sector.

He noted that Ghana’s sports industry has significant potential to create jobs and other opportunities for young people and professionals if it receives the necessary support and investment.

The Administrator therefore called for a collective effort to build a sustainable sports industry capable of nurturing Ghanaian talent while creating economic opportunities.

He stressed the need for deliberate investment, effective administration and innovative financing mechanisms to drive the growth of the sector.

The Ghana Sports Fund, established under Act 1159, is mandated to mobilise and manage resources for sports development in the country.

Dr Wuaku said the Fund remains committed to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening Ghana’s sporting ecosystem and unlocking its broader social and economic potential.
