The Ghana Police Service has arrested 50 people following a special anti-narcotics operation at the Madina market enclave in the Greater Accra Region.
The intelligence-led exercise, carried out on Thursday, May 7, 2026, by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team, focused on dismantling suspected drug distribution networks operating within the area.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, Director-General of Police Operations, COP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, said the suspects include 46 men and four women.
According to preliminary investigations, 25 of those arrested are Ghanaians, while the others comprise 13 Nigerians, nine Nigeriens, and one national each from Mali, Togo and Burkina Faso.
Police identified 26-year-old Abigail Oku and Mohammed Zaya, a Nigerian national, as alleged key figures in the narcotics network operating in the enclave.
Two other Nigerian nationals, Yousef Abubakar, 25, and Ahmadu Alfani, 43, were also identified as shop operators allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.
The suspects, together with items retrieved during the operation, have been transferred to the National Operations Directorate Headquarters to support ongoing investigations.
Police say the operation forms part of broader efforts to clamp down on the trafficking and sale of narcotic substances in markets, communities and other public spaces across the country.
