Kwabena Adu-Boahene
Lawyers for former Director-General of National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, have been invited to the Office of the Attorney General (AG) to examine a bunch of documents, including cheque books and payment records of two companies belonging to him.
Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, had attempted to tender some in evidence but Samuel Atta Akyea, counsel for the accused persons, raised an objection, arguing that they were only given to him yesterday, hence he could not study them to enable him raise any objections to their tendering, if necessary.
Dr. Srem-Sai, therefore, invited the defence counsel to the Office of the Attorney General to examine the documents.
The court, presided over by Justice Francis Achibonga, granted the request and directed the defence to do the examination today, May 6, 2026.
Mr. Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng have been charged for allegedly stealing a total of GH¢49.1 million from the state.
The two, as well as Advantage Solutions Limited, are facing a total of 11 counts of conspiracy to commit crime, stealing, using public office for profit, money laundering and causing financial loss to the state.
The prosecution has called its third witness, Mildred Donkor, who was initially charged alongside the accused persons but later converted into a prosecution witness.
The witness, who was the director of companies incorporated by the couple, claimed yesterday that “I do not take decisions with respect to what goes on in the company or what has to be done with respect to all the companies.”
She further claimed that she took instructions from Adu-Boahene and his wife “and they are carried out.”
She identified about 12 different “pre-signed” cheque books which she said was used to make withdrawals and payments in the name of the companies.
Mildred Donkor also identified a picture of a building which she said is located in Asokore Mampong, Kumasi, and was constructed with monies she was directed to send to Adu-Boahene’s mother.
Mr. Atta Akyea had objected to the tendering of the picture on ground of lack of authenticity. He was overruled by the court and the picture was admitted in evidence.
Meanwhile, the court has admitted a handwritten notebook the witness said contains the names of persons she was directed to make payments to.
She said she had also printed out a personal Excel Spreadsheet of the transactions because the “people we were making the payments to are many.”
That document is yet to be admitted in evidence as it is part of those that the defence team is supposed to examine at the Office of the Attorney General today.
She added that she kept records of these payments, particularly one of them because “the instruction that came before these withdrawals were done gave me the impression that Advantage Solution Limited was giving her a loan which she will pay later.”
The trial has been adjourned to May 7, for Mildred Donkor to conclude her evidence-in-chief.
