6 Kenyan Media Celebrity Couples And What They Do On Air

Kenyan media continues to feature high-profile married couples whose careers in television, radio, and entertainment have made them some of the most recognized figures on air and off-screen.

Recent online discussions have also centered on journalist Larry Madowo and media personality Edith Kimani, whose long-term relationship has resurfaced in public conversation.

Posts circulating around May 3-4, 2026, show Edith sharing romantic photos with Madowo, sparking reactions about their relationship as articles and social‑media posts routinely refer to them as a couple, with some outlets even tracing back old photos and captions suggesting they may have been together since around 2014, well before either became internationally famous.

Larry Madowo and Edith Kimani

Larry Madowo is a Kenyan journalist and international correspondent for CNN, based in Nairobi, and host of African Voices Changemakers. Edith Kimani is a Kenyan journalist and media personality, working as a news anchor and reporter at the German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW).

The relationship is widely perceived as romantic based on public appearances, social media interactions, and media coverage, though neither party has issued a formal joint confirmation.

The two are frequently seen together during holidays, birthdays, and trips, including visits abroad such as France and New York, as well as local outings. They also share photos and videos online that suggest a close personal connection.

Public commentary and media reports often describe them as a couple, citing affectionate posts, birthday messages, and playful exchanges that have fuelled ongoing speculation about their relationship status.

However, there is no explicit, unambiguous public declaration, such as a joint interview in which they call each other “partner” or “spouse”, so technically their relationship remains in the realm of semi-confirmed: widely treated as a couple by fans and media but not formally spelled out by the two themselves.

Citizen TV Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdallah

Citizen TV news anchors Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla are among Kenya’s most recognized media couples, having been married since 2009.

They are widely regarded as a media “power couple” for their joint presence in television journalism and their long-standing professional collaboration.

The couple shared that they met while working together at a radio station in Mombasa before transitioning into television careers. They later joined Royal Media Services, where their relationship developed into marriage after they moved into the same media environment.

Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla have three children and often describe their relationship as one of friendship and teamwork, emphasizing quick resolution of issues and maintaining a strong working and personal bond.

They are also known for anchoring Swahili news bulletins together on Citizen TV, making them one of the first husband-and-wife news anchor teams in Kenya’s broadcast industry.

Media Personalities Tom Japanni and Massawe Jappani

The duo is a Kenyan media and business couple. Massawe is an award‑winning Kenyan radio host, best known for her show Bustani la Massawe Japanni on Jambo Radio and other entertainment‑focused platforms.

Tom Japanni is the founder and CEO of Radio Maisha, a Christian‑oriented radio station, and is also active in media training and mentorship circles.

They have been married for over a decade; media profiles describe them as a long‑standing couple who opened up about a 13‑year‑old marriage in a 2020 feature.

Tom Japanni and Massawe have three daughters together and often present their family life as faith-centered, sharing messages about parenting, family investment, and resilience in interviews and on social media.

Waihiga Mwaura and Joyce Omondi

Waihiga Mwaura and Joyce Omondi are a married Kenyan media and gospel‑music couple; Waihiga is a news and sports anchor, and Joyce is a gospel singer and TV host.

Citizen TV’s Waihiga Mwaura married Joyce Omondi in 2015, at a glamorous wedding at the lush Sawela Lodge in Naivasha. She had quit her show at the station to pursue her studies in 2013.

In 2018, Joyce landed a job as a presenter at Switch TV after being out of media for six years.

Joab Mwaura and Nancy Onyancha

The two are Kenyan media personalities and a married couple; both are journalists and former news anchors on K24 TV.

Mwaura and Nancy officially tied the knot on 26 August 2018 in a colorful white wedding ceremony in Nairobi, about eight months after their March 2017 engagement.

They had also earlier held a traditional ceremony, making the 2018 event their “second wedding,” and are frequently described as one of Kenya’s media “power couples,” alongside pairs like Lulu Hassan–Rashid Abdalla.

The couple detailed their first meet-up at KTN/K24, where they both worked as news anchors and later co-founded a media production company after leaving K24.

DJ Mo and Size 8

DJ Mo (Samuel Muraya) and Size 8 (Linet Munyali) are a high-profile Kenyan gospel music and media couple whose relationship has been marked by a long marriage, a public breakup, and a later reconciliation and remarriage.

They were married for about 11 years before separating in August 2024, when Size 8 announced the breakup, citing personal struggles within the marriage.

The separation lasted approximately seven months, during which both spoke publicly about their experiences, including issues of growth, mistakes, and reconciliation. Size 8 indicated she initiated the split but maintained that there was still an emotional attachment.

In February 2025, the couple reconciled and remarried in a private ceremony held in Sigona, Nairobi. The reunion followed a public re-engagement around Valentine’s Day, which was widely shared online.

They currently describe themselves as married, presenting their relationship as a renewed commitment built on reconciliation, faith, and a second chance.
