Takoradi, May 02, GNA – Organised Labour from the Western Region has called on the government to ensure that prices of commodities were well controlled.

Ghana, the labour front, argued needed price control mechanism to halt regular and uncontrolled increases in prices of goods and services.

The Labour Unions also urged the government to keep its “Hands off ECG” and stop any privatisation attempt, demanding that power was a public good commodity that must be stable, affordable and secured.

Others pressing concerns from the Western labour front was the illegal mining menace, destruction of water bodies, the need to ensure fair and living wages and the urgent need for the release of the GRA-SML report.

The 2026 Western Regional Organised Labour group May Day parade and celebration took place at the Ghana Secondary Technical School Park in Takoradi under the theme: “Pivoting to Growth, Jobs, and Sustainable Livelihoods Beyond Macroeconomic Stability”.

Mr. Richards Kofi Hanson, the Acting Regional Secretary said the macroeconomic indicators must reflect in jobs and living standards of Ghanaian workers.

He was worried about the unemployment rate across the Regions and the need for dedicated actions and policies to restore hope to the many unemployed Ghanaians.

Mr. Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, praised Organised Labour for their resilience, patriotism and sacrifices to the development of the country.

He said the government was grateful for their commitment to building the country.

” These commitments and actions are profound symbol of solidarity; and we pledge to the dignity, prosperity and stability of the economy and growth,” he said.

Mr. Nelson noted that in the Region, infrastructure expansion, market access and SMEs support programmes were steadily advancing.

He prayed that Labour unions continued to adapt, become more punctual and committed to excellence.

Some union members deserving recognition were duly awarded for their activism and support to union course.
