Indian Women were off to a disappointing start to their five-match T20I series against South Africa on Friday as they went down by six wickets against the Proteas. 

Batting first, the Indian side could manage to put up just 157 runs on board, which South Africa comfortably chased, with five balls to spare.

Harmanpreet Kaur was India’s highest run scorer as she narrowly missed out on a half-century, while Jemimah Rodrigues ably supported her.

The second T20I between India women and South Africa women will be played at Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban, South Africa.

It will kick off at 9:30 p.m. IST on Friday, April 17, in India.

India vs South Africa squads, team news

IND-W, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur with Smriti Mandhana as the vice-captain, have maintained an experienced base comprising Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma.

The young all-rounder Anushka Sharma gets her maiden inclusion into the squad along with Kashvee Gautam and Uma Chetry. Richa Ghosh and Chetry are the wicket-keepers.

India predicted XI: Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Richa Ghosh (wk), Kashvee Gautam, Arundhati Reddy, Shreyanka Patil, Deepti Sharma, Renuka Thakur, Sree Charani.

The SA-W squad is being led by Laura Wolvaardt. All-rounder Marizanne Kapp is once again out of action after being left out of the squads for their encounters against Pakistan and New Zealand recently.

Head coach Mandla Mashimbyi has welcomed Eliz-Mari and wicket-keeper batter Tebogo Macheke on board, which makes this the Macheke’s first national team call-up.

South Africa predicted XI: Laura Wolvaardt (c), Sune Luus, Tazmin Brits, Annerie Dercksen, Nadine de Klerk, Anneke Bosch, Chloe Tryon, Sinalo Jafta, Ayabonga Khaka, Tumi Sekhukhune, Nonkululeko Mlaba.
