The Chief Executive of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has inaugurated an ultra-modern office in Ashaiman to boost service delivery and reduce congestion at existing centers. He said the rapidly growing Ashaiman municipality in the Greater Accra Region needs an additional facility to meet increasing demand for driver and vehicle services.

The new office is expected to make services more accessible and efficient for residents.

“Each of these offices is a deliberate response to the demand for services that are closer, faster, and more accessible to the people. Ashaiman, being one of the most vibrant and fast-growing municipalities in the greater Accra region, deserves a facility of this standard to meet the increasing demand for efficient and accessible services.” he stated.

Mr Kotey further stated that, the Ashaiman centre will offer a full range of services, including vehicle registration, transfer of ownership, issuance of new driver’s licenses, renewals, replacements, license upgrades, and the conversion of foreign licenses. Mr Kotey added that beyond service delivery, the office will also support community outreach programmes, ensuring the DVLA remains connected to the people it serves. The edifice is also expected to create employment opportunities for residents in the area.

“Apart from the staff that will come to train your people, the supportive staff will all come from Ashaiman. We are not going to discriminate. Every community, every society has someone trained who can work in our DVLA office. We just urge you to conform to our rules and regulations,” he emphasized.

Member of Parliament for the Ashaiman Constituency, Ernest Norgbey, reaffirmed government’s commitment to decentralization and equitable development, noting that the area deserves such infrastructure given its status as one of the country’s most densely populated and cosmopolitan communities.

“Looking at the motorbikes and number of cars we have in this constituency, it is always good that when you need the services of the DVLA, you have them at your doorstep. I want to commend the CEO and his management team for listening to the plight of the good people of Ashaiman by bringing this edifice to us. I can assure him the good people of Ashaiman will put it to good use. he assured.

Private partner, Daniella Gumbo, stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing Ghana’s growing infrastructure needs without placing undue pressure on state resources.

“Ghana’s service infrastructure is significant and growing. Government budgets, however well managed, have their limitations. Private capital can be mobilized, provided the framework is right and the terms are transparent and public interest is genuinely protected. This is what good public-private partnerships do,” she stated.

The new DVLA  office at Ashaiman forms part of ongoing efforts to expand access and better meet the needs of residents in the area.
