Nigeria Receives Civil Aviation Master Plan At ICAO Global Symposium – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

ABUJA – Nigeria has officially received its Civil Aviation Master Plan (CAMP) from the International Civil Aviation Organization during the opening session of the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) in Marrakech, Morocco.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who received the document on behalf of the Federal Government, also participated as a special guest at a ministerial roundtable where he spoke on the “Future of Aviation Workforce in Nigeria.”

According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Tunde Moshood, on Tuesday, he highlighted ongoing efforts to bridge the skills gap within the country’s aviation sector.

The presentation of the master plan marks a significant milestone for Nigeria’s aviation industry, outlining a structured roadmap for transformation over the next 20 years, from 2025 to 2045.

The initiative, approved by the minister, was developed by ICAO’s Capacity Development and Implementation (CDI) unit. Work began in September 2024 with a comprehensive training programme involving key stakeholders across Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.

Aligned with Nigeria’s National Development Plan and other policy frameworks, the CAMP focuses on building a modern, competitive, and resilient aviation sector.

Key priorities include the modernization of airport infrastructure to handle increasing passenger and cargo traffic, as well as the adoption of advanced technologies such as unmanned aerial systems.

The plan also emphasizes maintaining a zero-fatality aviation environment through strict adherence to global safety and security standards.

It further envisions the transformation of Nigerian airports into aerotropolis hubs to boost economic activities, create jobs, and improve connectivity.

In addition, the CAMP underscores sustainability and innovation, with a strong focus on human capital development, private sector investment opportunities—particularly in Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities and cargo terminals—and alignment with global environmental standards.

The presentation at the global symposium highlights Nigeria’s growing commitment to international best practices in aviation development, with ICAO continuing to support the country’s modernization efforts.
