At a recent press briefing in Lagos, the atmosphere was thick with the narrative depth of Sarah Baker’s scents. While the distinguished founder of Seinde Signature, Olaseinde Olufemi Olusola, was away, his daughter and General Manager of the brand, Oreoluwa Olusola, took center stage. With a sophistication that mirrors the brand’s legacy, Oreoluwa walked us through the poetic DNA of Sarah Baker’s house. She revealed a detail that elevates these perfumes into the realm of high art: every Sarah Baker bottle comes with a literal script.
Baker, a San Francisco-born, London-based artist, doesn’t just ‘nose’ a perfume; she writes it. Each fragrance is treated as a piece of theater, complete with characters and emotional arcs. In a nod to her roots, every bottle— from the most controversial scents to the undisputed bestsellers—carries a touch of the signature orange from the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, a visual bridge between her heritage and her global craft.
According to Seinde Signature, the Nigerian launch a tour of the major Nigerian cities where niche is a thing is the way to go.
The tour kicks off on April 16 in Abuja, moves to Port Harcourt on April 17, and reaches its opulent crescendo on Sunday, April 19 in Lagos.
The centerpiece of these launches will be the worldwide spotlight presentation of two new icons: Velvet Vendetta, a study in shadowy seduction, and Vava Vanilla, which reimagines the classic note as sculptural couture.
But don’t expect a standard retail display. In keeping with Baker’s artistic soul, the launch will be a five-sense spectacle. The incredibly talented Nigerian actor, Deyemi Okanlawon, is set to perform a stage play that serves as a collection of the stories tucked inside each bottle. In a move that celebrates our local creative power, these stories have been adapted into a Nigerian context, ensuring that while the scents are international, the soul of the performance is undeniably ours.
This collaboration between Seinde Signature and Sarah Baker is less of a business deal and more of a cultural alignment. In just six years, Seinde Signature has moved from a passion project to a powerhouse curator of over 40 exquisite niche brands. By bringing Sarah Baker to Fame Lagos at the Purple Mall in Lekki, and across the nation, they are affirming that Nigeria is now a tastemaker and a destination worthy of world premieres.
As Oreoluwa Olusola guided us through the beauty of these scents, it became clear that April 2026 will be a month where fragrance literacy in Nigeria reaches its peak. This isn’t just about smelling good; it’s about the drama, the memory, and the “Vava” of it all. Nigeria is ready as the play is about to begin, and it smells spectacular.
