For many Nigerians, the concept of disc jockey DJ is just an aspect of the entertainment, but for Rachel Oluwabukola Martins popularly known as DJ Djdimplenipple, it is more than that.

She is of the opinion that as much as DJing is an art, there is a great business opportunity in it.

According to her, modern DJ, goes beyond music and performance, noting that success in the industry requires a strong sense of business, branding, and discipline.

The Lagos-based DJ in a recent chat with journalists said one of the biggest misconceptions about DJing is that it is solely about playing music, stressing that building a lasting career demands strategic thinking and consistency.

“People see the lights, the crowd, and the vibe, but there’s a lot of work behind it,” she said. “DJing is not just art, it’s business. You have to understand your brand, your audience, and how to position yourself.”

Since launching her career in 2019, Djdimplenipple has grown from an emerging talent into a recognized name across clubs, festivals, and high-profile events. She credits her training at Rise Academy in South Africa for giving her a solid technical foundation, but says her growth accelerated when she began to treat her craft as a brand.

“I had to ask myself — what do I want people to remember me for?” she explained. “That’s when I started building my identity, my style, my energy, everything became intentional.”

Known for her vibrant stage presence and nickname “The Dancing DJ,” she said consistency in delivering high-energy performances has helped her stand out in a competitive industry. However, she emphasizes that visibility, networking, and professionalism are just as important.

“You have to show up, promote yourself, connect with people, and deliver every single time,” she said. “Your reputation is everything in this business.”

Her growing portfolio includes performances at major events such as Warri Again, Okochiri Festivals, Tape Lagos, and Red Room, as well as numerous private engagements. Her UK tour marked a significant milestone, further establishing her as an international act.

Beyond the stage, Djdimplenipple said she is focused on expanding her reach through collaborations with brands and artists, noting that partnerships are key to long-term success.

“This industry is about relationships,” she added. “The more you collaborate and align with the right brands, the more you grow.”

Looking ahead, the DJ says her goal is not only to dominate stages globally but also to build a lasting brand that transcends music.

“I want to be known not just as a DJ, but as a force — someone who understands the business, the culture, and the power of entertainment,” she said.

As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, DJ Djdimplenipple’s focus on branding and business strategy positions her as a forward-thinking act in Nigeria’s vibrant music scene.
