The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has pledged his support to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in establishing a modern press centre in the Ashanti Region.

The assurance came during a courtesy call by the regional executives of the Association on the revered traditional ruler, held at the Manhyia Palace during the Awukudae celebration.

The delegation, led by Ashanti Regional Chairman Kofi Adu Domfe, expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for his intervention in securing land for the project. Mr. Domfe recalled that an earlier attempt to construct a press centre had failed under unclear circumstances. Following engagements with the Lands Commission, the issue was escalated to the Asantehene, who expressed dissatisfaction and directed that a new parcel of land be allocated to journalists in the region.

He emphasized that acquiring a new site would provide journalists with a permanent space to coordinate their activities and enhance professional practice across the region.

During the visit, the delegation also formally introduced its newly elected executives to the Asantehene and sought his blessings for a successful tenure. They commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for hosting the 29th GJA Awards in Kumasi, describing the event as historic and instrumental in boosting the image of journalism in Ghana.

The proposed press centre is expected to significantly improve working conditions for journalists in the Ashanti Region and strengthen media development efforts.
