The Ghanaian previously managed the Black Stars but was shown the exit door following poor run of form after succeeding James Kwasi Appiah in 2020.
Following the departure of Otto Addo last month, Akonnor has being linked with a return to the Black Stars with huge rumours disclosing engagement with the Ghana Football Association is done. However, Akonnor insist he’s happy with Kenyan Premiership side Gor Mahia and would support his national team but returning now is out of his option.
“I was once the coach of the national team. If there’s a link, it’s not anything negative. It’s not anything bad. It’s good”
“I’m a Ghanaian. I love my country. I love the national team. I will support them in the World Cup. And that will be it”, C.K Akonnor said.
“But for now, my focus is on Gor Mahia. I am with Gor Mahia. I’m very happy. I’m doing well”
The local football governing body has within 60 days to appoint a successor for Otto Addo who will lead the four-time Africa Champions to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in the summer.
