It was a beautiful blend of culture, music and heritage as the Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming Festival was officially launched in Accra, marking the beginning of a bold cultural movement connecting West Africa to the Caribbean.

Held at the Labadi Beach Hotel, the launch event attracted key players in Ghana’s creative arts, tourism and entertainment industry including Presidential Staffer for the BLackstar Experience, Rex Omar, MUSIGA President, Bessa Simons, the Honorary Consulate of Jamaica, Okatakyie Boakye Danquah Ababio, Reggae legend, Black Santino, music duo, LalixLola among others.

One of the biggest highlights of the event was the presence of Jamaican reggae star Gramps Morgan.

Speaking at the launch, the Jamaican star described the festival as something much bigger than entertainment. “This is not just an event. It is a bridge that connects us back to who we are and where we come from.”

He went on to stress that for many Jamaicans, Ghana holds a deep spiritual and historical meaning. “When we say we are coming home, we mean it. Ghana is home for us,” he shared, drawing applause from the audience.

Beyond the celebration, the festival is also focused on impact. According to Gramps Morgan, the initiative is designed to create real opportunities for young creatives and entrepreneurs. “We want to build something that supports the youth, opens doors and creates opportunities across borders,” he added.

Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Abdul Fatawu Alhassan emphasised the need for unity and collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean. “This festival is about reconnecting people, sharing culture and building strong partnerships that will benefit future generations,” he explained.

Organised through a collaboration between Broadway Entertainment and Dadason Entertainment, with implementation by Six Degrees Africa, the festival is expected to go beyond music and performances. It will feature cultural experiences, business networking sessions and creative showcases aimed at strengthening ties between Ghana and Jamaica.

The event is also expected to attract participants from across Africa, the Caribbean and the diaspora, positioning Ghana once again as a leading destination for cultural tourism and global connection.
