Otto Addo should coach junior national team, Black Stars ‘too big’ for him – Sonnie Badu

Gospel musician Sonnie Badu believe it was too huge a task for Otto Addo to manage the Ghana National Men’s team, despite acknowledging some improvement in recent performances.

According to him, Otto did not march up to the abilities of a Black Stars coach, hence his struggles. Otto Addo saw Black Stars in their last two friendly matches against Austria and Germany, however failed to impress losing both games.

Badu says despite Otto growing in the job the senior national team was too demanding for him.

He proposed that Otto Addo should rather be given a job to handle one of Ghana’s junior national teams.

“After last night’s match, I gained some hope in Otto, but I think the senior national team was too big a responsibility for him. Maybe he’d be a better fit for one of the junior national teams,” he wrote on Instagram.

According to him, the immediate concern should be finding a capable replacement ahead of crucial upcoming assignments, including the World Cup.

Badu endorsed former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah as the ideal candidate to take over the team, even if on a short-term basis.

“I think Akwesi Appiah would be the perfect choice. He knows all the players, has tons of experience, and can lead the team effectively,” he said.

He cautioned against appointing a foreign coach at this stage, arguing that such a move would require time for adaptation, which the team currently lacks.

“We can’t risk having them lose and then say they didn’t have enough time with the players,” Badu noted.
