Kenyans are set to enjoy a rare perk courtesy of the government after the Treasury announced a National Easter Benefit Package targeting all citizens countrywide.
The announcement was made through a special gazette notice dated March 31, which outlined a series of cash and non-cash benefits intended to offer some relief to Kenyans during the four-day weekend.
As per the notice, each Kenyan household is set to receive Ksh7,000 credited directly into their mobile money accounts.
The cash perk will also be accompanied by a household subsidy aimed at supporting household expenses during the Easter festive period.

“In accordance with Gazette Notice No. 04/1/2026, the National Treasury hereby directs that a monetary allocation of Seven Thousand (Ksh 7,000) per household shall be disbursed to all registered households under the National Easter Benefit Package,” the gazette notice read.
According to the Treasury, the subsidy is designed to cover essential costs, including seasonal needs, ensuring all Kenyan citizens can fully participate in Easter celebrations.
Officials within the Treasury emphasised that the measure was part of a broader effort to promote social welfare for all Kenyan households, even as the docket prepares to roll out the 2026 Finance Bill.
Following the latest announcement, concerns have been raised over the eligibility criteria for the Easter Fund, with some Kenyans warning of potential irregularities that could prevent them from receiving the perk.
However, Kenyans.co.ke has since established that the subsidy is universal, covering all Kenyans, including students, retirees, informal workers, and public servants.
The Treasury says the initiative reflects a commitment to inclusivity and national unity.
Another point of concern that has emerged is the question of sustainability, particularly because the country is expected to experience several other national holidays in the coming weeks. Sceptics have since questioned whether there will also be dedicated funds for the same.
Amid the excitement over the rare government favour to Kenyans, the announcement has ultimately been revealed to be an April Fools’ Day hoax. Happy Fools’ Day!
