Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has weighed in on the growing debate surrounding a possible return for André Ayew to the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to Graphic Sports, Adams acknowledged the public discussions but stressed that player selection remains the sole responsibility of head coach Otto Addo.

“Fortunately, I’m the minister. Unfortunately, I’m not the coach. The coach has the final say on this; if they include him, why not? I won’t be surprised,” he stated.

Ayew, a former Black Stars captain, was notably left out of Ghana’s squad for recent international friendlies against Austria and Germany, a decision that has sparked widespread debate over his future with the national team.

Currently playing for NAC Breda after joining as a free agent, the veteran forward has made 11 appearances, scoring once.

The discussion is expected to persist as Ghana continues preparations for the World Cup, with the final decision resting firmly in the hands of the technical team.
