Kenya: Authorities unveil stadiums for AFCON 2027
The Kenyan government has officially announced the venues that will host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Speaking before the Senate, Sports Secretary Salim Mvurya revealed that Raila Odinga Stadium and Kasarani Stadium will be the main competition sites.
The Raila Odinga Stadium, with a construction cost of 44.3 billion Kenyan shillings, is 80% complete and is expected to be finished by April 2026. For team training sessions, the government has designated Nyayo National Stadium, Ulinzi Complex, and the Kasarani Annex.
“Talanta City Stadium, Raila Odinga Stadium, and Kasarani Stadium will host the matches, while Nyayo, Kasarani Annex, and Ulinzi will serve as training grounds,” Mvurya specified.
The Secretary of State also mentioned the 30 million dollars Kenya must pay to CAF for hosting rights.
“We are working with the Treasury and parliamentary committees to settle this amount. Kenya will meet this commitment and host the tournament,” he assured.
Tanzania and Uganda, the co-hosts, have already fulfilled their financial obligations. Kenya is finalizing its own payments to ensure full compliance with CAF regulations.
The country secured the joint East African “Pamoja” bid with Tanzania and Uganda in September 2023. The 36th edition of AFCON will take place from June 19 to July 18, 2027.
