Family finds decomposing body of kidnapped minor in Bauchi

A decomposing body of a four-year-old boy, Yunusa Salisu, has been discovered at the Warinje Hills in Bauchi metropolis, after he was reportedly kidnapped in their family home by a family friend.
  
According to the spokesperson for the Police Command in Bauchi State, SP Nafiu Habib, the prime suspect, Rabiu Safiyanu, a 20-year-old friend to the victim’s uncle, has been arrested and he has reportedly confessed to the crime.
  
Nafiu said the detectives of the ‘C’ Divisional Headquarters, led by the DPO, arrested the suspect following a report on March 21, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m. by Salisu Yunusa, the victim’s father of Nasarawa Madina Quarters, Bauchi.
  
He said that the victim went missing on March 18, adding that the father told the police that the adductor called on March 19 with a private number demanding N500,000 ransom but after he paid N100,000, he did not see the child.
  
Police said that investigation led to the arrest of Rabiu Safiyanu, the prime suspect, who is of the same address and a friend of the complainant’s younger brother. He confessed to taking the victim, strangling him, dumping the body at Warinje Hills, and demanding further ransom.”
  
Meanwhile, Nafiu said that the police had recovered the decomposing body with marks of strangulation and a rope suspected to have been used in the act.
  
“The Officer in Charge of the Police Clinic certified the victim dead. The body was photographed and subsequently released to the relatives for burial.
  
“The suspect is in police custody. CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case, ensure timely discreet investigation and prosecution. He further charged the residents to always observe people around them and report suspicious activities to the police,” he said.
