CPP Tells Members: Nobody Will Build This Party For Us

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) is calling on its members to recommit to the party’s founding purpose, with Communications Director Osei Kofi delivering a frank internal message urging supporters to place ideology above personal loyalties and stop waiting for external forces to drive the party’s revival.

In an open letter to party faithful, Osei Kofi acknowledged the human cost of decades of commitment to a party that has remained outside of power since the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah in 1966, paying tribute to members who dedicated their lives to the CPP without seeing it return to government.

“I have seen comrades struggle for the CPP with the hope of restoring it to power,” he said. “Many remained committed until they drew their last breath.”

He contrasted their dedication with members who have since defected to rival political organisations, dismissing their departures as evidence that their original commitment was never genuine. “I do not worry about them because their commitment was not genuine,” he said.

The core of Osei Kofi’s message was a call for self-reliance and internal discipline. “Nobody is going to build the CPP for us,” he said. “Nobody will love the CPP more than we do if we do not lead the way.”

He also challenged members to examine whether personal relationships formed through the party had begun to overshadow the party itself, warning that personality-driven loyalty weakens political organisations over time. “We were brought together because of the CPP and what it stands for,” he said. “If we forget why we came together and focus on individuals instead, then we have lost our way.”

Osei Kofi urged members to reflect on the level of sustained effort that built Ghana’s more established political parties, suggesting that the CPP’s path back to relevance requires the same quality of commitment from its current generation of supporters.
