The Board Members of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) have pledged their support for the newly established Ghana Sports Fund, presenting a personal donation during a meeting with the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddi Adams, at Olympic House in Accra.

Led by GOC President Richard Akpokavie, the board emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in sustaining sports development.

The donation was intended to set the tone for private sector participation, demonstrating that sports leaders are willing to invest personally in the fund’s success.

Mr Akpokavie described the Sports Fund as a critical “financial engine” needed to reduce dependence on government funding and promote fairness across all sporting disciplines, particularly those often overlooked.

The Minister commended the gesture, assuring that the fund would be managed with transparency and accountability to support infrastructure, athlete welfare, and grassroots development.

He noted that his visit formed part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between government and sports federations.

The meeting marked a renewed partnership between the government and the GOC, with both sides committing to long-term planning and improved preparation ahead of major competitions, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
