Kenya’s entertainment community and social media users were left in shock following the tragic death of popular content creator and social media personality Luhya Kid, who passed away in a motorbike accident.
His passing, alongside that of his wife, has reignited discussions about road safety for motorbike riders in Kenya.
Following the news, Sofiya Nzau, a musician and public figure, expressed her grief on Instagram while highlighting broader concerns about the lack of road safety measures for bikers in the country.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Sofiya Nzau mourned the couple’s passing while urging the government to address the recurring accidents involving bikers.
She questioned why Kenya continues to ignore motorbike riders, despite motorcycles being a major means of transportation.
Nzau noted that the country has the space to create dedicated lanes for bikers, similar to practices in other nations.
“Why can’t we just have their lanes like other countries? We have the spaces,” she wrote.
She also highlighted the failure to utilize existing road posts erected by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), stating that many remain unused and that there are no proper street lights along critical stretches of road.
According to Nzau, these gaps in infrastructure make roads unsafe not only for bikers but for all road users.
“It’s very sad there are accidents after accidents and nothing is done. No lights on the roads hadi kwa tunnels…what can this government do for us if even lights cannot be put along roads? Basic need for Wanjiku, but who cares?” she lamented.
Nzau concluded her post with a call for respect and remembrance for the victims. “May we not forget. Na watu wa body msitumike hata kidogo. May this family rest in peace,” she shared.
Luhya Kid, also known as Gustavo, was celebrated for his creative content, humor, and relatability. His work on social media earned him a loyal following, and his sudden death has shocked the Kenyan digital content space.
