Watch the Day South Africa Chased the Impossible

Take a trip down memory lane as South Africa stunned the cricket world in 2006 with a record-breaking chase of 434 against Australia at the Wanderers Stadium.

Johannesburg, South Africa (12 March 2026)- Twenty years ago, cricket fans witnessed one of the most unforgettable matches the sport has ever seen.

On the 12th of March 2006, at the iconic Wanderers Stadium, history was completely rewritten. Facing a massive target of 434 set by Australia’s national cricket team, the Proteas stepped onto the field believing the impossible might just be possible.

What followed was a run chase for the ages. Boundary by boundary, South Africa refused to back down, matching the pressure and intensity of a world-class Australian side.

By the time the final runs were scored, the scoreboard read 438/9. Making it the highest successful run chase the game had ever seen. Two decades later, the memories of that incredible night still stand as a reminder of why sport captivates us. It was a game that showed just how powerful belief can be when a team refuses to accept limits.

And 20 years on, it remains one of cricket’s greatest spectacles. The day the Proteas chased down the impossible!
