AN eight-member newly elected executives of the Local Union of the New Times Corporation (NTC), publishers of The Ghanaian Times and The Spectator, was on Monday sworn into office for the next four years.

The members are Mr Roland Wotordzor (Chairman), Mr Anthony Marshack (Vice Chairman), Mr Vincent Owusu Sarpong (Secretary), Mr Ebenezer Addai (Assistant Secretary), Mr John Mensah (First Trustee), Mr Kenneth Amfoh Mensah (Second Trustee), Mr Eric Cobinnah (Executive Member), and Mr David Tetteh (Youth Representative).

The Principal Industrial Relations Officer of the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU-Ghana), Mr Henry Atakey,

on behalf of the General Secretary, Mr Morgan Ayawine, administered the oath of office to the executives.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Wotordzor underscored the importance of unity in achieving the union’s objectives and addressing workers’ concerns.

“As newly elected members, we can only achieve our objectives and be able to address the concerns of workers, if we stay together and work in unity. I, therefore, urge all members to put aside their differences and work together,” he said.

He thanked the outgoing Chairman, Mr Cephas Aveh, for his leadership and pledged to build on his achievements.

Mr Atakey, in a brief remark, reminded the executives to operate strictly within the union’s constitution.

“Your new positions do not guarantee you the power to do things that are not in accordance with the rules and regulations of the union,” he emphasised.

He further urged them to ensure prudent management of membership dues to avoid any issues of financial mismanagement. Mr Atakey also encouraged the executives to work closely with the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of NTC for the collective benefit of members.

The Editor of The Spectator, Mrs Georgina Naa-Marku Quaittoo, called for open dialogue between the IMC and the union executives in addressing workers’ grievances and concerns.

Similarly, the Human Resource and Administrative Manager of NTC, Mrs Agnes Nketia, said the new roles presented an opportunity for the executives to leave a lasting legacy at the end of their tenure. She urged them to work diligently towards that goal.

The outgoing Chairman, Mr Cephas Aveh, congratulated Mr Wotordzor and his team and urged them to make sacrifices to continue the legacy of the previous administration.

Also present at the ceremony were the Acting Editor of The Ghanaian Times, Mr David Adadevoh; the Supervisor, Advert, Sales and Business Relations, Mrs Edzodzi Can-Tamakloe; the Acting Chief Accountant, Mr Eric Nkum Antwi; the Acting Internal Auditor, Mr Ismaila Attual-Lah; and members of the Professional and Managerial Staff Union (PMSU), including its Chairman, Mr Andrew Parker.
