The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory for Ghanaians intending to undertake Umrah, the non-mandatory lesser pilgrimage to Mecca that can be performed at any time of the year, citing the rapidly evolving security situation in parts of the Middle East.
In a statement dated March 2, 2026, the Ministry urged prospective pilgrims who have not yet commenced their journey to temporarily postpone travel until conditions stabilise.
The government stressed that the safety and well being of Ghanaian nationals remains its foremost priority.
Ghanaians currently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Umrah were advised to remain calm, strictly adhere to directives from local authorities, and maintain regular contact with their travel agents, the Ghana Embassy in Riyadh, and the Consulate General in Jeddah.
The Ministry also provided emergency contact numbers for those seeking assistance. In Ghana, prospective pilgrims may call +233 240 913 284 or +233 240 793 072. Ghanaians in Saudi Arabia can reach +966 59 776 2966 or +966 56 818 1974, or send an email to [email protected].
