Tammy Abraham has reportedly expressed interest in playing for Nigeria after falling out of favour with England, reigniting debate over whether the Super Eagles should welcome him.

The 28-year-old Aston Villa striker, eligible through his Nigerian parents, was once part of England’s plans but has not received regular call-ups in recent years. With his international career stalled, reports suggest the former Chelsea forward is now open to switching allegiance to Nigeria.

Abraham’s history with Nigeria dates back years. He initially agreed to represent the Super Eagles before changing his mind to play for England at senior level, earning 11 caps and scoring three goals. At the time, many Nigerian supporters were disappointed with his decision.

Now, the prospect of a switch has divided opinion. Those in favour argue that his quality and experience at the highest level would strengthen the squad. They believe football decisions evolve, and strengthening the team should be the priority.

Opponents counter that the national team should focus on players who showed commitment from the beginning. They point to Abraham’s previous choice as a reason to look elsewhere.
