Alexander Afenyo-Markin making the allegation in Parliament on Friday
The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has made a wild allegation over the involvement of a senior government appointee in what he described as a “scandal looming in security services recruitment.”
Delivering a remark after President John Dramani Mahama presented the State of the Nation Address, the Minority Leader, right in front of the President, claimed that the said appointee, who he said was female, was making millions at the expense of unemployed youth with the introduction of a company called “Trybenet” to a ministry.
Afenyo-Markin, who made these remarks while responding to utterances made against former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta by the Majority Caucus, said that the said appointee would soon be exposed by his side.
“Mr Speaker, we are happy. We are happy they are showing a picture, trying to embarrass the former finance minister. We’ve seen it, but very soon, soon and very soon, let me assure you that somebody, a senior appointee who is in charge of this Trybenet, would go to jail.
“The one behind Trybenet, the one who introduced Trybenet to the ministry, who is chopping money, Mr Speaker, we are happy you are showing it. Very soon we will bring her picture. Then you will see the one in charge of Trybenet, duping innocent Ghanaians, duping the unemployed youth.”
He added, “There are many youth who are looking for jobs, and this Trybenet, with the connivance of an appointee of government, she will be exposed. So you continue with Ken Ofori-Atta; soon and very soon, it will be your turn.”
While the Minority Leader was making the allegation, President Mahama could be seen wearing a faint smile.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, on the other hand, could be seen with a serious face, possibly disappointed by what was going on.
