Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, will organise a skills training programme and distribute tools to beneficiaries of the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP), in line with government’s youth empowerment agenda.

Ahiafor commended President John Dramani Mahama for prioritising skills development and job creation through targeted interventions aimed at empowering young people.

He said the president’s vision to invest in vocational training and apprenticeship programmes was helping to equip the youth with employable skills and reduce unemployment across the country.

“This initiative reflects the president’s commitment to empowering the youth with practical skills and tools to enable them to become self-reliant and contribute to national development,” Ahiafor said.

The programme, dubbed the “Akatsi South MP’s Skills Training Initiative,” is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Akatsi No 1 Junior High School premises at 1300 hours.

The initiative will see beneficiaries receive essential working tools to support their respective trades after completing their apprenticeship training.

Daniel Dagba, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South, also praised President Mahama for his leadership and commitment to youth empowerment.

He said the National Apprenticeship Programme was already making a significant impact in improving the livelihoods of young people in the municipality.

“The President has shown strong dedication to addressing youth unemployment through practical interventions like the apprenticeship programme. This will help many young people to become economically independent,” Dagba said.

He commended Ahiafor for complementing government efforts and demonstrating strong leadership in supporting skills development in the constituency.

The National Apprenticeship Programme, implemented in collaboration with the National Youth Authority, is aimed at reducing youth unemployment and strengthening skills development across the country, Daniel Dagba reiterated.

The National Apprenticeship Programme, implemented in collaboration with the National Youth Authority, forms part of government’s broader strategy to promote entrepreneurship, reduce unemployment, and strengthen local economic development.

Johnson Korbla Samlafo, Volta Regional Coordinator of the National Apprenticeship Programme, speaking to media, said the programme formed part of government’s broader strategy to equip young people with employable skills and promote entrepreneurship.

He said the distribution of tools to beneficiaries would enable them to immediately start their own businesses after completing their training.

“The vision of President Mahama is not only to train the youth but to empower them with the necessary tools to become economically independent and productive members of society,” Samlafo said.

He urged beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity and use the support provided to improve their lives and contribute to national development.
