The Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Eteng Jonah Williams, has provided relief materials worth millions of naira to communities impacted by recent communal clashes in Obubra and Ikom local government areas.

The intervention, carried out in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency through its zonal office, saw the distribution of essential items to residents of Ochon Ward in Obubra and Ofutop II Ward in Ikom.

Represented at the exercise by his Senior Legislative Aide, Barr. Emmanuel Elemi, the senator said the initiative was aimed at easing the hardship faced by victims and demonstrating solidarity with affected families. Barr. Elemi led the delegation that delivered the materials to the communities.

Benefiting communities included Isabang, Ochon, Onyen Okpon, and Odionget in Ochon Ward, as well as Ekukunela, Okosora, and Abaragha in Ofutop II Ward.

The distribution attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, women groups, youth organisations, and political stakeholders, who commended the Senator for his responsive leadership and consistent grassroots engagement.

Among dignitaries present were the Councillor of Ofutop II Ward, Hon. Osim MacPeace; the Councillor of Ochon Ward, Hon. Richard Iyamba; and the Liaison Officers for Ikom and Obubra Local Government Areas, Hon. Theophilus Abri and Hon. Nton Joseph.

Reaffirming the senator’s commitment to his constituents, Barr. Elemi noted that the support forms part of ongoing efforts to assist vulnerable households and strengthen resilience across the district.

Residents expressed appreciation for the timely assistance, describing it as timely, impactful and reassuring.

Items distributed included thousands of bags of rice and garri, wax wrappers, bags of iodised salt, cartons of vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning, one hundred pieces of Guinea brocade, and other essential household supplies.
