Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has visited one of the two Ghanaian survivors of the recent terrorist attack in Burkina Faso, following her successful medical evacuation to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The survivor, a native of Koforidua, was among Ghanaian traders caught up in the deadly incident that has left several families in mourning and sparked national concern over the safety of Ghanaian traders operating across the country’s northern borders.

Speaking after the visit on Tuesday evening, Baafi expressed gratitude to God for preserving the survivor’s life despite the tragic circumstances surrounding the attack.

“I thank God for her life and for His divine protection in the midst of such a tragic incident,” he said, noting that while her survival brings hope, the nation continues to grieve for those who lost their lives.

The New Juaben South legislator also extended condolences to families affected by the attack, assuring them of continued prayers and national support during this difficult period.

Baafi further commended the government and the security agencies for what he described as a swift and coordinated response, particularly in facilitating the medical evacuation of the injured survivor to Ghana for treatment.

According to him, the rapid intervention demonstrates the importance of strong state institutions and security coordination in protecting Ghanaian citizens, especially those engaged in cross-border trade that contributes significantly to the country’s economy.

He wished the survivor strength, healing, and a full recovery, assuring her of the support of her hometown and the nation at large.

“Koforidua stands with you. Ghana stands with you,” he stated.

The recent attack in Burkina Faso has renewed discussions around regional security cooperation and the protection of Ghanaian nationals operating in high-risk areas within the West African sub-region.

Meanwhile, medical officials at the 37 Military Hospital are expected to continue monitoring the survivor’s condition as she begins her recovery process.
