The Head Pastor of Conqueror’s Chapel International, Kumasi Branch, Prophet Emmanuel Worlasi has rejected claims that religion should determine political leadership.

He explained that even for him, initially, he struggled with accepting the fact that God could speak to him about someone who was outside the Christianity faith, referring to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s Flagbearer, until God corrected his thinking.

Speaking on The Lowdown on GhanaWeb TV with Etsey Atisu, Prophet Worlasi stated that he once shared the same doubts many Ghanaians expressed during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race.

“At the beginning, I was also having that same perception.

“People were saying he is a Muslim, he is a Muslim, and honestly, I was thinking about it too,” Prophet Wolasi admitted.

According to the prophet, his perspective changed after what he described as a divine revelation.

“The Lord spoke to me and said He is concerned about religious backgrounds. God is concerned about the heart of the individual,” he said.

Prophet Worlasi also explained that God used biblical examples to reshape his understanding of leadership and divine choices, leading him to describe Dr Bawumia as a modern-day ‘Cyrus.’

“The Lord told me (that) the same way He used Cyrus, an idol worshipper, to deliver the Hebrews and rebuild the temple, He is going to use Dr Bawumia,” he stated.

He stressed that faith labels should not be used to disqualify individuals from leadership, noting that character and intent matter more than religious identity.

“You can be a Christian and still have a bad heart, and someone can be a Muslim with a good heart.

“God looks at the heart, not the religion,” he added.

The prophet further stated that religious arguments against Dr Mahamudu Bawumia intensified ahead of the primaries, but he remained firm in his conviction, despite the many public criticisms.

“People were using religious tactics against him, but I stood on my grounds because the vision was clear,” he stated

Prophet Emmanuel Worlasi urged Ghanaians to move beyond religious divisions in politics, saying national progress depends on unity and discernment rather than fear.

“This is the time for Ghanaians to take religion out of politics and focus on what God wants for the nation,” he concluded.
