A video circulating online has sparked reactions after showing the moment Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, repeatedly declined a kiss from his wife during a public event.
The incident reportedly happened during a dinner and award night held on Wednesday, February 4, as part of activities marking the state’s 50th anniversary celebration.
During the event, Governor Makinde was seated while his wife, Tamunominini Makinde, who was standing beside him, attempted to kiss him. With cameras and guests focused on them, the governor appeared to pull back, declining the gesture.
Realising her husband was not receptive to the public display of affection, Tamunominini later sat down, visibly uncomfortable. Observers noted she tried to hold back tears by raising her head up, a moment that has since triggered mixed reactions on social media.
Reports indicate that Governor Makinde met his wife during his NYSC days in Rivers State. Tamunominini is said to come from a wealthy family in Rivers State, and their union has been part of the governor’s successful journey over the years.
