A Christian group, Christian Citizenship International, has cautioned Christians in Nigeria against shunning political activities, warning that such attitude would further produce more corrupt leaders.
The group which addressed journalists in Umuahia on Thursday, also said that the poor participation of Christians in voters registration, voting and other decisive electoral processes, gave the opportunity for bad leadership to thrive.
The Coordinator of Christian Citizenship Summit, Pastor Emmanuel Ihim, who spoke on the socio- political situation of Nigeria, expressed surprise that some Church leaders still see politics as sin, adding that some Christian denominations don’t vote all during elections.
“For a very long time, the Church has continued to see politics as a dirty game and has not been taking part in the political process of this country,” he said.
According to him, the crises of terrorism in the country have been avoided if the right persons were elected into leadership positions.
To enlighten the Christians about the power in political participation, the group said it would be organizing summits in three Abia cities – Umuahia, Aba and Ohafia, in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria, Church leaders and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
It further vowed to lead Christians to install only God fearing candidates in the country irrespective of their political party.
