Berekum East NPP delegates, supporters jubilate over Bawumia victory in constituency

Berekum, (Bono), Jan 31, GNA-Ecstatic delegates and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Berekum East Constituency, a political stronghold of the party in the Bono Region were in jubilant mood, when the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was declared winner of the constituency primary.

The Electoral Commission (EC) certified results, Alhaji Dr Bawumia secured 256 votes to beat his keen contender presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central obtaining 200 votes in the primary which ended peacefully at NPP’s constituency office at Berekum.

Dr Bryan Acheampong had 182 votes with Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum securing four votes and Dr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong having one vote.

Out of the 734 expected delegates, only 653 of them participated in the elections.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Mr Kwaku Kamkam, the Berekum East Constituency Chairman of the NPP said believed that the former Vice President was chosen by the delegates because of his marketability.

Nonetheless, he called for strengthened unity and a formidable front now to enable the party to intensify political activities and to win political power in the Election 2028.

In the Berekum West constituency elections, Alhaji Dr Bawumia secured 147 votes, Mr Agyapong, 123 votes, Dr Acheampong, 64 votes, Dr Adutwum, four votes with Dr Agyepong having no vote there.

The total votes cast were 366 out of the 367 delegates.
