A Presidential candidate aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, says he represents an opportunity to restore the trust of Ghanaians for the party in the hope of winning the 2028 general election.
“Our message is ‘Hope for All’; hope for the party, hope for the nation, hope for every Ghanaian.
We are talking about rebuilding the NPP from the base, restoring trust and winning 2028,” he said in an interview with the Daily Graphic.
Like the other candidates in tomorrow’s five-man contest, the former Minister of Education maintains high hopes of emerging triumphant, saying “the reception has been very positive; delegates feel heard, respected and inspired”, as he began to round up a campaign that has been described by his camp as a sub-marine operation.
“Many believe the party needs a calm, unifying leader at this moment,” he said.
Dr Adutwum, who is also a former Minister of Education, added that his message resonated with delegates.
“My campaign has been strong, focused and has gained momentum as I engaged delegates directly at the grassroots and listened deeply.
The feedback is clear: delegates want unity, credibility and a winning vision. Our message is resonating because it is practical, honest and people-centred,” he said.
Unique skills/ Leadership
Dr Adutwum said with his proven leadership experience in both Ghana and the USA, strong record of delivery, especially in education and human capital development, ability to communicate across divides and to youth, professionals, faith leaders, market women and the average person, made him the right choice to lead the party at this moment.
He described himself as a unifier with clarity of thought, humility and discipline, adding that his life story remained one that many Ghanaians could relate to, one guided by divine providence and earned success, rather than entitlement.
Dr Adutwum said he would leverage his strengths to win the 2028 election for the party when given the nod by rebuilding trust within the party and reconnecting with the Ghanaian middle class, farmers, traders, scholars, students, the clergy, among others.
“I will present a credible, issue-based national vision that appeals beyond party lines, leading a campaign anchored on ideas, inclusion and performance, not insults or divisions,” he said.
He said he would also lead Ghanaians to wage war against poverty, which, he said, had been the people’s commonest enemy.
Re-organisation
Touching on his plans to bring renewal and rejuvenation to the NPP, Dr Adutuwm said he would reorganise the party from the polling station to the national level, hold regular engagements and meetings, ensure welfare support, and capacity building for party members.
He said he would also ensure that functional constituency offices and stronger communication structures, adding that his leadership style would be the one that valued consultation, respect and collective ownership of the party.
Dr Adutwum said he would invest heavily in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and skills development to train more engineers and health professionals.
He said under his presidency, he would ensure the provision of quality and relevant tertiary education, institute graduate retraining programmes, create Information Technology hubs, build smart cities, improve healthcare outcomes through preventive care and long-term planning, all of which he christened “Agenda Longevity”.
Dr Adutwum said he would also use tourism as an avenue for more revenue generation, strengthen agriculture and agribusiness as engines of employment, ensure responsible management of natural resources and infrastructure development as well as create prosperity centres to guide individuals in attaining middle-class status.
