The search for Kotoko’s first league win in 2026 continues as they face Basake Holy Stars this afternoon at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors will have to find a way to end their winless run in January to fuel their journey for the title race.

The fans of the GPL giants await the team’s first victory since the 6-0 thrashing of Bechem United in December last year, having failed to win any of their last 3 games. (1L, 2D).

In today’s encounter, Coach Karim Zito and his boys will have the chance to get back on track as the favorite.

WHY IS KOTOKO THE FAVORITE?

  1. Asante Kotoko has yet to lose at home this season.
  2. They always win if they had drawn in their previous game when playing at home.
  3. Basake Holy has yet to beat Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.
  4. Asante Kotoko are unbeaten at home since losing 2-0 to Nations FC in 2024.
  5. Asante Kotoko are yet to concede at home from December 2025.
  6. Basake Holy Stars are winless in all away games this season in the Ghana Premier League (3D, 7L).
  7. They have scored only 3 goals in 10 away games (yet to score in their last three).

POSITIVE NEWS

Asante Kotoko will have a beefed-up attacking department following the return of Albert Amoah.

The prolific striker rejoined the Porcupine Warriors on loan after a short stint with Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya.

Before making the switch to the Libyan club, Amoah netted 16 goals in 30 league appearances for Kotoko, establishing himself as the club’s most potent weapon in attack and one of the standout players in the domestic championship.

His blend of pace, composure, and finishing prowess made him a fan favorite at the Baba Yara Stadium.

He hopes to take his game to the next level when given the opportunity.

CONSEQUENCES

The calls for Coach Abdul Karim Zito’s exit will rise again if the Porcupine Warriors fail to win today.

Reports gathered indicate the former Ghana U20 tactician was given a three-game ultimatum after his side’s goalless draw with Berekum Chelsea.
