Even though most parts of Ghana are calm and people can move about freely, there are still a few places where movements are limited, especially at night.
In these areas, curfews are still in place because of ongoing conflicts and security concerns, many of which are related to chieftaincy matters.

Bawku Municipality and Surrounding Areas (Upper East Region)
Bawku is one of the areas with the most serious security problems.
A curfew from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM is in force because of long-standing chieftaincy disputes that have led to repeated violence in the area.
There is also a ban on carrying weapons and riding motorbikes.
Meanwhile, many residents have said the curfew helps reduce attacks that usually happen at night.
Binduri Township and Surrounding Areas (Upper East Region)
Binduri is under the same 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM curfew.
The restriction was put in place due to ethnic tensions and security threats, some of which are linked to nearby conflicts.
The aim is to prevent further troubles and protect lives.
Nkwanta Township and Surrounding Areas (Oti Region)
In Nkwanta, people are expected to stay indoors between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
The curfew was imposed because of ethnic disputes among different groups in the area.
While it affects daily life, residents say it has helped keep the peace at night.
Nalerigu Township and Surrounding Areas (North East Region)
Nalerigu is also under a 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM curfew.
This followed violent incidents linked to chieftaincy disagreements.
Security officials say the curfew helps stop clashes and gives room for peace talks.
Sampa Township (Bono Region)
Sampa is under a curfew from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
The restriction came after chieftaincy tensions raised fears of violence.
Authorities continue to ask residents, especially the youth, to remain calm and settle issues peacefully.
Gulumpe Township and Surrounding Areas (Savannah Region)
Gulumpe has one of the longest curfews, running from 4:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
This is because of ongoing chieftaincy disputes that have caused security concerns in the area.
The early start time is meant to stop clashes before they begin.

These curfews show that while Ghana is mostly peaceful, some communities are still dealing with serious challenges.
