Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has described nurses as the backbone of healthcare delivery, commending their dedication, professionalism and sacrifices in sustaining the health sector.
Mr Gunu expressed his appreciation during a courtesy call by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Volta Region, led by its President, Mr Theophilus Kwadzo Doh, at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council on Tuesday January 13, 2025, in Ho.
He acknowledged the demanding nature of the work of nurses and midwives and praised them for their unwavering commitment to saving lives and promoting public health, often under challenging conditions.
The Regional Minister noted that the President’s Reset Agenda places strong emphasis on ensuring good health and well-being for all Ghanaians, stressing that the success of this agenda largely depends on the commitment, motivation, and welfare of frontline health workers, particularly nurses and midwives.
He assured the GRNMA Volta Region of the support and collaboration of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to enable the Association to effectively carry out its mandate.
Mr Gunu further called for sustained dialogue and stronger partnerships between the Council and health professional bodies to address challenges within the sector and improve healthcare service delivery across the region.
He expressed confidence that enhanced collaboration with GRNA Volta would significantly contribute to improved health outcomes and accelerated development in the Volta Region.
The GRNMA delegation said the visit was to formally introduce the Association to the Regional Minister, congratulate him on his appointment, and brief him on the activities, challenges, and contributions of nurses and midwives to healthcare delivery in the region.
The delegation highlighted the critical role nurses play in sustaining the health system, noting that many continue to provide quality care to patients in both urban and rural communities despite resource constraints.
