The Minerals Commission of Ghana on January 19, 2026, welcomed a high-level mining sector technical delegation from the Tanzania Mining Commission for a week-long bilateral exchange programme.

The visit, aimed at fostering mutual learning and strengthening cooperation in mining sector governance, was officially received by the Chief Executive Officer of Minerals Commission, Issac Tandoh, alongside the Commission’s executive leadership.

During the welcoming session at the Commission’s headquarters, Tandoh underscored the value of peer-to-peer learning between African nations.

He reiterated Ghana’s commitment to transparent, efficient and sustainable mineral resource management, highlighting the country’s focus on local content and community participation as foundational to its mining policy.

“Our sector reforms are centered on maximising in-country value, ensuring environmental stewardship, and promoting responsible mining,” stated Tandoh.

He further outlined the Commission’s core mandate, emphasising the strategic integration of technological systems to enhance regulatory oversight, licencing transparency and compliance monitoring.

The visiting delegation, led by Dr Theresia C Numbi, Chairperson of Tanzania’s Local Content Committee, participated in intensive technical presentations by various departments of the Commission.

Key focus areas included Ghana’s legal and regulatory framework, strategies for effective local content and local participation implementation, the digitized Mining Cadastre Administration System (MCAS) and initiatives for formalizing the artisanal small-scale mining sub-sector.

Scheduled from January 19 to 23, 2026 the programme will extend beyond Accra to include mine site visit and further institutional stakeholder engagements.

Both nations expressed strong confidence that this collaborative exchange will deepen ties and advance shared objectives in local content regulation, compliance and sustainable mining governance across the continent.

In attendance was Madam Victoria Awuni, Deputy CEO, Policy Planning, Mineral Titles & Local Content, Maxwell Klu, Deputy CEO, Small Scale Mining and Industrial Minerals.
