New Kyebi Zongo chief vows to bridge education gap, improve sanitation

The newly enstooled Chief of Kyebi Zongo in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, Sarki Alhaji Sanusi Mohammed, has pledged to prioritize education and sanitation in the Zongo community and across Okyeman.

Speaking at his Official outdooring ceremony at Akyem Kyebi Zongo on January 18, 2026, Sarki Alhaji Sanusi Mohammed expressed concern over the educational gap in Zongo communities and described poor sanitation as a major challenge affecting public health.

He assured residents that his leadership would focus on practical interventions to address these issues.

The new Kyebi Zongo will also serve as Chief of Kyebi Zongo and the leader of the Akyem Abuakwa Zongo chiefs Council Chief.

He was the Abuakwa South Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He has declared zero tolerance for drug abuse and criminal activities. He announced plans to collaborate closely with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to expose drug peddlers and rid the community of criminal elements.

He used the occasion to appeal to residents, including rival groups within the Zongo community, to “put aside their differences and unite for development.”

According to him, “unity is key to tackling challenges such as drug abuse, crime, and lapses in education.”

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, who attended the ceremony with the NDC Vice Chairman, Alhaji Azorka, Eastern Regional NDC Chairman, Dr Mark Oliver Kevor and other party executives, pledged the government’s continued support for the Muslim community.

She urged residents to maintain peace and work together to sustain harmony in the area.

Delivering a message on behalf of the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin IV, the Kyebi Apapamhene, Okogyeaman Apagya Ofori V, called for unity and accelerated development in the Zongo community.

He charged the new Chief to work towards changing negative perceptions associated with Zongo communities, particularly the notion that they are linked to violence.
