Moroccan football fans were in a jubilant mood after the Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a vital 2–0 victory over their fierce rivals Algeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Galatasaray striker opened the scoring with a commanding header and later turned provider, setting up strike partner Akor Adams for Nigeria’s second goal.

This dominant all-around performance earned the former Napoli forward the Man of the Match award.

After the match, Nigerian fans took to the street in Morocco to celebrate the victory with a brass band, marking their team’s remarkable achievement in advancing to the next stage.

During the celebrations, Moroccan fans joined in, delighted to see one of their fiercest rivals knocked out of the competition.

Morocco and Algeria share a long-standing football rivalry in the North African sub-region, both at club and national team levels.

Reports from the tournament, according to some journalists, indicate that Algerian and Moroccan reporters often clash with the slightest provocation.

In an interesting turn of events, The Super Eagles are now set to face the host nation in a high-stakes game on January 14, 2025, to decide who advances to the final.

Nigeria’s toughest test will come against the Atlas Lions, who have also proven to be a formidable side with key players such as Brahim Díaz and the reigning CAF African Footballer of the Year 2025, Achraf Hakimi.
