The Accra Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police, has arrested seven members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate allegedly involved in violent robberies across parts of the Greater Accra, Eastern and Ashanti Regions.

The suspects are Kwame Bediako, alias “Star Boy” or “Nkokorpor,” identified as the ringleader; Salia Mohammed, alias “Kwaku Nuah,” aged 27; and Kofi Ishmael, alias “Ishmael Addo” or “Kofi Ketewa,” aged 32.

The others are Kwadwo Kalovi, alias ‘Aticho’, Mumuni Abdul Razak, alias “Mogambo,” aged 39; Kwasi Akambuley, also known as ‘Kwasi Fresh,’ aged 27; and Kwame Bonsu, alias ‘Killer Ntua.’

One of the suspects is currently on admission receiving medical attention, while investigations continue to arrest other accomplices at large.

A statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Region, said police investigations had linked the suspects to several previous robbery cases.

These included attacks on market women, motorists, and a fatal robbery incident in which a driver lost his life.

Some of the suspects, the statement said, were reported to have jumped bail in earlier cases  currently pending before the courts.

Further investigations revealed that the gang carried out multiple highway robberies, targeting motorists and trailer drivers along the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw and the Juaso–Kumasi stretch.

Exhibits retrieved so far are firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The statement said on November 29, 2025, the suspects attacked a residence at Peduase in Aburi and robbed the occupants of mobile phones, jewellery and an unspecified amount of cash while armed with firearms.

Following intelligence-led operations, personnel of the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), in collaboration with the Accra Regional PID, arrested suspect Kofi Ishmael on January 6, 2026, at Avenor in Accra.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted his involvement in the robbery and identified Kwame Bediako as the ringleader of the syndicate, the statement said.

Acting on the information, police arrested Kwame Bediako at Ablekuma Agape, where a search conducted at his residence led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun concealed within the fence wall, together with four BB cartridges.

The suspect admitted his involvement in several robbery cases, the statement said.

The suspects further disclosed that they were preparing to embark on another robbery operation at the time of their arrest.

The Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to dealing decisively with criminal activities and urged anyone with information that could assist ongoing investigations to report to the nearest police station.
