None of the Ghanaian athletes won a medal in 2025 None of the Ghanaian athletes won a medal in 2025

Ghanaian athletes once again failed to secure medals in various athletics discipline they competed in, in 2025, despite high expectations from Ghanaians.

The 2025 World Athletics Championships presented another opportunity for the athletes to clinch medals, but none succeeded, although some came close.

At the World Aquatics Championships, some athletes broke national records but still could not secure medals.

Check out the athletes’ performances below:

Rasheed Saminu

Ghana’s fastest man, Abdul‑Rasheed Saminu, failed to qualify for the finals of the men’s 100 metres at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

He missed out after finishing 4th in the semi‑finals (Heat 3), clocking a time of 10.08 seconds.

Jamaica’s Oblique Seville won the race with a time of 9.86 seconds, while Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo secured the other automatic slot for the finals with 9.94 seconds on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Benjamin Azamati

Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati failed to qualify for the semi‑finals of the men’s 100 metres at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Azamati finished 6th in Heat 5, missing out on the top three automatic slots for semi‑final qualification. He clocked a time of 10.30 seconds.

This was another disappointing campaign for the athlete, whose performance appears to be declining.

Rose Yeboah

Ghanaian high jumper Rose Yeboah’s ambition of winning a medal at the World Athletics Championships was dashed after she finished 12th in the women’s high jump final at the 2025 edition.

Despite several attempts, she was unable to clear the 1.93‑meter mark, which could have placed her in contention for a podium finish.

This marked the end of her maiden appearance at the World Athletics Championships, where she reached the final despite limited experience at this level.

Yeboah will now focus on intensive training ahead of future competitions, with the goal of securing a medal and cementing her legacy in women’s high jump.

4x100m Relay Team

Ghana’s 4x100m relay team finished fourth at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on September 21, 2025.

The team ran a time of 37.93 seconds, falling short of their three leading opponents and missing out on a podium finish.

The United States won gold with 37.29 seconds, Canada claimed silver with 37.55 seconds, while the Netherlands secured bronze with 37.82 seconds.

Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Rasheed Saminu competed in the race with hopes of winning Ghana’s maiden medal in the event, but that ambition did not materialize.

Nubia Adjei

Ghanaian swimmer Nubia Adjei made history at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, breaking the national record in the women’s 50‑meter butterfly with a time of 28.82 seconds.

This remarkable performance, achieved during Heat 4, eclipsed the previous record of 29.14 seconds set by teammate Joselle Mensah, marking a significant milestone for Ghanaian swimming.

Adjei, already the national record holder in the 100m backstroke, showcased her versatility and prowess in the pool with another record.

Her 50m butterfly time secured a third‑place finish in her heat, though it was not enough to advance to the semi‑finals.

Joselle Mensah

Ghanaian swimming sensation Joselle Mensah made history at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, setting new national records in the women’s 50m and 100m freestyle events.

The event, held from August 2–3, 2025, featured top contenders such as Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske of the United States and Meg Harris of Australia, with Walsh ultimately emerging as a leading finalist.

Mensah also shattered the national record in the women’s 100m freestyle, posting a time of 58.98 seconds on July 31, 2025.

Born on September 26, 2003, in Bad Vilbel, Germany, to a Ghanaian father, Mensah has quickly risen through the ranks of international swimming.
