The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested five men for allegedly impersonating officers of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

The suspects – Moses Tapiam, 43; Christopher Amakor, 29; Casimir Nunekpeku, 29; Wisdom Miwonuko, 35; and Paul Agbanu, 53 – were taken into custody on Friday, January 2, 2026. They reportedly visited mining sites in Akwadum, Abuakwa South, near Kibi, extorting money from miners while dressed in security uniforms.

NAIMOS officers apprehended the men in a Mitsubishi 4×4 pick-up with registration number GS 536–25 and handed them over to the Eastern South Regional CID in Kibi.

Police have warned the public that impersonating security officers is a criminal offence and assured residents that anyone caught doing so will be arrested and prosecuted.

The five suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned in due course.
