Sir John’s dream was to see Bawumia become president – Kate Gyamfua tells Charles Owusu –

Kate Gyamfua, the National Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized Charles Owusu, a former associate of the late Sir John, for his decision to contest as an independent candidate for the Nkoranza parliamentary seat.

She labelled Owusu’s decision as a betrayal of the late Sir John’s vision and the collective goals of the NPP.

She emphasized that the late Sir John, a former Forestry Commission boss, harboured a desire to see Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia ascend to the presidency, a vision Owusu’s independent candidacy contradicts.

She warned that should Owusu’s independent candidacy lead to the loss of the Nkoranza seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), she would not hesitate to take action against him.

“It is up to him. You claimed to love Sir John, and one of Sir John’s visions was to see Bawumia become president. So why would you betray him?

“If he makes a mistake for us to lose the seat to the NDC, he will see what I would do to him. But I don’t support him, so I don’t care,” she in an interview on Peace FM on May 4, 2024.

Sir John, a one-time General Secretary of the NPP, was a staunch supporter of Bawumia till his death from COVID-19 complications in 2020 at the age of 63.
