Many Ghanaians have called on the leadership of the minority caucus in Parliament to initiate a process for the removal of Joseph Osei Owusu from the position of second deputy speaker in Parliament. There has been an expression of pessimism as to whether the First Deputy Speaker could be removed from his office since there is no clear offense that he has committed against the rules of the house. Although the majority of Ghanaians are supporting the minority caucus on their stance on the 2022 budget, they disagree with how the NDC MPs resorted to violence.

In an exclusive interview on Joy News, the 2nd deputy speaker who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Bekwai was asked by a viewer that would he continue to mount the Chair in the absence of the Speaker knowing that he could be attacked by the NDC MPs. This was his response.

“I do not believe that I will be attacked. I am sure I am safe in the house. Even those who had been seen on video doing things which I will call unparliamentary have themselves regretted. Thus, they have no reason to do that again. Besides, I have no reason to fear my colleagues.”
