President Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia
A youth activist belonging to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Issah Fawan has expressed his anger over the manner president Akufo-Addo and his Veep, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are borrowing money to manage the country’s economy.
In a statement he released yesterday Friday, September 3, the youth activist said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Akufo-Addo spat and went back to lick it on the ground.
Alhaji Fawan painstakingly reminded Ghanaians of the words of Dr. Bawumia, while the NPP was in opposition, that there was money in Ghana, and he knew because he had worked at Bank of Ghana before.
“While in opposition, President Akuffo-Addo and Bawumia’s NPP took a stern and cutthroat stance on borrowing, claiming that the NDC government was doing more harm than good by borrowing, that it was completely unnecessary, and that our beloved Ghana does not require foreign aid, reinforcing his campaign message: GHANA BEYOND AID”, he wrote.
“It’s a shame that when the New Patriotic Party took office, they sought international assistance with nothing to show for it, and they still do. During a presentation in Accra Thursday night [November 26, 2020] to make a case for President Akufo-Addo’s re-election on December 7, Dr. Bawumia said, “You remember that the NDC government had to go to the IMF to rescue the economy. That was indeed a rescue mission!. It was clear that the Mahama-led NDC Government had lost its way, failed Ghanaians, and did not have any idea how to get us out of the ditch it had driven us into.” he continued, to laughter in the audience…”, he added.

Greetings, distinguished ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of the National Democratic Congress, we are grateful for your dedicated collaboration and cooperation with us as we consolidate our democracy and shape a prosperous Ghana.
I’d like to begin by reflecting on President Nana Akuffo-Addo and Bawumia’s NPP’s stance on sheer transparency and utmost truthfulness, which embody the principles of governance, in relation to the unwarranted borrowing and massive corruption in which he and his government are engaged.
While in opposition, President Akuffo-Addo and Bawumia’s NPP took a stern and cutthroat stance on borrowing, claiming that the NDC government was doing more harm than good by borrowing, that it was completely unnecessary, and that our beloved Ghana does not require foreign aid, reinforcing his campaign message: GHANA BEYOND AID. It’s a shame that when the New Patriotic Party took office, they sought international assistance with nothing to show for it, and they still do. I picked up one of the dailies a few days ago, on a Wednesday morning if I recall correctly, and opened to the finance section, where it read, “Post-COVID economic recovery: IMF gives Ghana USD$1 billion dollars.” I then thought to myself, “That’s another aid from beyond, haha.” I don’t blame them because a man who studied structural adjustment, economic welfare, and electoral behavior in the 1992 Ghanaian Presidential election for a PhD in economics can’t possibly know anything about real economics.
Ghana Beyond Aid was a properly stacked campaign message emphasized to us Ghanaians by the NPP government as a ploy to secure votes and carve their way into government, because they truly do not believe and have not stood by their own campaign message, plunging the nation further and further into debt.
Today, we can all attest to the deception that cloaks the Akuffo-Addo administration and their stated stance by simply looking at Ghana’s public debt profile, which is rising year after year. In fact, the nation’s debt-to-GDP ratio increased by a whopping 33.762 percent between 2017 and 2020, a period of only three years. The Akuffo-Addo/Bawumia government’s attitude of excessive and irresponsible borrowing has ensured that we have nothing noteworthy left to cater for dire expenditure, let alone service our debts and pay salaries to public sector workers.
Corruption is at an all-time high, and I thank my brother Sammy Gyamfi, Esq. for the excellent fact-based press conference on August 30, 2021, which highlighted the majority of the corruption scandals by the family and friend’s government, which is led by the mother serpent of corruption.
As if these were the only concerns of the worried Ghanaian people, the Akuffo-Addo/Bawumia government clearly has no sympathy for the country’s economic hardship. Economic hardship caused by the implementation of bad policies that raise the cost of fuel, food commodities, and building materials. Despite the aforementioned economic difficulties, the NPP government continues to incur extravagant expenditures, indicating a lack of concern for ordinary Ghanaians. President Akuffo-Addo’s hiring of a jet for $14,000 per hour for recent travel needs is completely unnecessary and a slap in the face to the already distressed Ghanaian. This demonstrates how unconcerned the Akuffo-Addo/Bawumia government is – taking a stance and not having the decency to stand by their truth.
These are the ‘honourable’ men you all voted for and I hope you reconsider your decision in the years to come.
