The Channels Television cameraman, Kani Ben, who died in a tragic motor accident while covering the commissioning of projects by the North East Development Commission (NEDC), was laid to rest on Saturday amid tears.

Kani Ben was buried in his hometown of Kangling, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The 44-year-old journalist was born on May 28, 1982, and passed away on February 15, 2026, after battling injuries sustained in the accident.

The accident, which occurred along Duguri road, involved 14 people, including 13 journalists from various media houses, and left many injured.

Speaking at the burial ceremony, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed deep sympathy and extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the entire journalists over the incident.

Represented by the Honourable Commissioner of Information, Usman Shehu Usman, the governor announced automatic employment of Ben’s Sarah into the state civil service as part of a gesture to support the family.

The governor had visited the injured journalists at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) and directed his physician to stay with them.

The commissioner, who was accompanied by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado, praised the life and service of the late journalist.

The governor’s approval of the appointment of Kani Ben’s wife to the civil service is seen as a gesture of goodwill and support to the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) also expressed its condolences to the family and prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul.

In a heartfelt tribute, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado, described the Late Channels TV cameraman as a dedicated professional, a humble colleague, and a kind soul.

He further described him as a man of simplicity, dignity, and professionalism, who earned the respect of everyone through his hard work and commitment to his craft.

“He was a cameraman who was committed to his nature, and many others saw him as a quiet gentleman. He understood that his duty was not just to record events, but to document history, rain or shine, early morning or late night.” Gidado said.

In a vote of thanks, Rt. Rev. Cletus Dading, the Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Abuja Diocese, expressed appreciation to the Governor of Bauchi State for the gesture, praying that God Almighty bless him abundantly.
