Today’s Headlines: How did you get varsity degree-Atiku mocks Tinubu, Boniface’s brace down Gladbach

How did you get varsity degree without prior education?’ — Atiku mocks Tinubu

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has mocked President Bola Tinubu over the controversy surrounding his academic qualifications.

Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election, is seeking the credentials Tinubu submitted toChicago State University (CSU) before being admitted to the school.

He has asked the university to provide the credentials Tinubu used in gaining admission. However, the president, through his lawyers, asked a US court not to grant Abubakar’s prayer.

In a post on X on Sunday, the former vice-president wondered how Tinubu obtained the university degree without primary or secondary school education.

“I woke up this morning wondering how we got to this cul de sac. In 1999, @officialABAT claimed he attended St. John’s Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos, before proceeding to Children Home School in Ibadan,” he wrote with a laughing emoji.

“According to him, his next port of call in his educational journey was Government College Ibadan and Richard Daley College and Chicago State University in the United States. Curiously, in 2023, Tinubu settled with attending only @ChicagoState.

“I am scratching my head. How is that possible? Me thinks that all well-meaning Nigerians should be as confused as I am with Tinubu’s declaration that he had no primary and secondary education, yet he has a university degree.”

Boniface’s brace down Gladbach

Victor Boniface bagged an impressive Bundesliga double as Bayer Leverkusen trounced Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 in a Rhine derby at Borussia Park on Saturday.

Boniface did not start the encounter well, as he was cautioned in the 16th minute after a bad foul. However, he made up for his mistakes two minutes later when he scored his first Bundesliga with his fifth shot in the German top flight heading in Alejandro Grimaldo’s flick header.

Bayer Leverkusen got their second goal through Jonathan Tah just before the break.

Transporters lament lull in Lagos-East route

The fortunes of many road transport companies are currently nosediving. Some of them operating on inter-state routes – particularly Lagos to the Eastern corridor – are having difficult times as a result.

Many of the said companies, especially the upcoming ones are now experiencing low passenger patronage and corresponding profit decline.

A considerable number of their passengers are no longer turning up like they used to do in the recent past.

Sunday Sun gathered that the current economic challenges in the country are forcing people to reorder and repurpose their earlier travel plans. Those who hitherto travelled regularly at the slightest prompting are no longer doing so. And this has added to hit hard the transporters and the patronage they used to receive.

Sunday Sun learnt that the recent increase in fuel pump price had affected everybody’s behaviour in very many ways. With PMS now selling at prices above N600, up from N185 per litre, transport fares on all routes have shut through the roof.

But, the transporters who are still managing to brave the odds have to recover their huge expenses on fuel first and other operating costs before talking about making profit.
