Federal Government Colleges (FGCs), also known as Federal Unity Colleges, now charge higher tuition than before, going from 45,000 to 100,000. This was stated in a directive sent to all Federal Unity College principals on May 25, 2023, with the reference number ADF/120/DSSE/I and from the Office of the Director of Senior Secondary Education Department of the Federal Ministry of Education.

New students are required to pay 100,000 instead of the previous $40,000, according to the circular titled “Approved fees/ charges for Federal Unity Colleges (1st Term) for new students,” which was signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir.

Almost every aspect and activity of the school will be impacted by the most recent fee/charge escalation, tuition and boarding costs, uniforms, textbooks, deposits, exercise books, prospectuses, caution fees, ID cards, stationery, clubs and societies, sports, extra lessons, insurance, and more.

In the meanwhile, on July 11, the House of Representatives urged the Federal Government to cancel the increase in tuition at all federally funded secondary schools. The resolution came after a motion made by Kama Nkemkanma (LP, Ebonyi) and Saidu Abdullahi (APC, Niger). While introducing the motion, Nkemkanma claimed that the increase was putting pupils through unimaginable hardship.
